Call for Interns

Are you interested in working with a team of motivated technologists and professionals using data and creativity to tell stories that matter? Do you want to help make a difference in your country? JumpStart is looking for interns to assist in translations, communications, and fundraising. The duration of the internship is 4 months. We require that candidates complete a sample English-Georgian translation during the interview. The deadline for applications is 25 December.

UNICEF Georgia launches new data portal about children in Georgia

UNICEF Georgia is launching the first country level data portal on children's issues. For the first time, UNICEF has made local data on children's issues accessible in multiple languages to academics, NGOs, and journalists. 3rd Annual International Open Data Conference

This year, JumpStart will participate in the 3rd annual International Open Data Conference in Ottawa, Canada. From May 28-29, 2015 sector and open data experts, senior government officials, industry leaders, and civil society champions from around the world will gather in Ottawa, Canada to exchange ideas and work together to enable the data revolution. JumpStart is doing its part in Georgia, and is excited to share its local experience and learn from others.

Public Workshop: How do you manage technical and design-oriented projects?

JumpStart invites you to share our discussion on how to manage technical and design-oriented projects. More and more journalists and civil society organizations are collaborating with programmers, designers, and artists to create more engaging media for better communication. JumpStart has gained significant experience in managing technical and design oriented-projects and would like to share our lessons learned, what practices we think work better, insight into workflow, and more. We'd love to hear your experiences, bad and good and how you have approached managing such projects.

Global training in Data Journalism for journalists and students

 

JumpStart Georgia and the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) are hosting local learning group meetings for an Online Data Journalism course organised by the European Journalism Centre.

The online course Doing Journalism with Data: First Steps, Skills and Tools, starts on the 19th of May and lasts for 5 weeks. This 5-module online course is run by leading international data journalism experts and is open to anyone in the world.

Hack Me Some Land Registration Data

Public Workshop: Telling Stories With Data

JumpStart Georgia will hold a workshop open to the public on what data is and why it's important when telling stories for journalism and advocacy. Specifically, we will discuss  what we mean by structured data, how to get structured data on a variety of topics in  Georgia, and how this data can be analyzed and communicated in a variety of ways. We will look at what tools exist that make it easier to collect, analyze, and communicate data to tell stories and advocate for change. The workshop, open to the public, will target civil society organizations and journalists.

Public Workshop: The How-To's of a Data-Driven Advocacy Campaign.

This workshop will be the second of JumpStart’s monthly trainings that cover a variety of aspects of using data to communicate, including data collection, use, analysis, and communication (visualization). This second workshop will cover the basics of how to plan and implement a successful advocacy campaign using data. All who are interested are welcome to attend, however the venue is limited to about 50 people, give or take. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your questions.

The workshop will be held at 3pm (15.00) on Friday 21 March in the Multimedia Education Centre.
